Newsletter – February 2017

Hi Everyone,

Well it is almost the end of February now!!  And what a busy time February has been so far…
As I said in the last newsletter, I have been part of the “Girls Sheds” and this was held yesterday – for just over a week Flo and I have been busy little bees cutting and glue-ing  our creations together ready for “the day”.
Some lovely gentlemen came round on Saturday afternoon and put up a flag to show people where we were – some ‘nice’ people came round during the night and took it away!! – say no more!!  Flo and I were up bright and early to make sure we had everything ready for people to come and see and buy. The lovely Rotary men came early and replaced our flag – the day was to start at 9am and shortly after that we had our first car load arrive. It was wonderful to meet so many people who came to see (and buy) what I do here and to meet Flo.  I hope that everyone enjoy their day travelling round all the ‘Girls Sheds’ to see what everyone does.  I did wonder what I would do if I retired – now I am wondering how I ever had time to go to work!!

A big THANK YOU from me goes out to:
Marilyn for all her hard work
David and his helpers who were at our gate for the day
Flo – the “Cricut Queen” and my sister for all her support and help
Anne, Ann, Joycelyn and Heather who kept us fed and watered during the day
To everyone who came to our shed on the day.

Meeting and making new friends is wonderful.

January 2017 Newsletter 1.

JANUARY 2017

MADGES CREATIONS

Hi All,

I decided that as we are now almost through January I had better get my act together and send out our newsletter.
I do hope  you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year with your family and friends – for most of us I think the weather was not our usual ‘hot summer sun’ days – however being with family and special friends it really doesn’t matter what the weather is like. To those of you who found 2016 a bit of a challenge with life and health I do hope that 2017 will bring you improved health, no stress, and lots of fun times.

Some of you know that we have one of our grandsons living with us as his mum lives overseas and he attends Uni here. Keith and I thought it would be a nice ‘gift’ to both him and his mum if we sent him over to spend Christmas with her. So for several weeks prior to Christmas each time I spoke with her on skype  etc I tried to get information as to when she had holidays and if she was working over Christmas or going away etc without letting her know that he was coming. So – we ‘invented’ a young lady and called her ‘Jan’ telling our daughter that ‘Jan’ was coming to Dubai and would she be able to stay with her for a day or two. Our daughter was delighted to put up a New Zealander for a few days and agreed to meet her at the airport (at 5.30am!!).
What a surprise she got when she was standing there with a card that read “Jan” and Lucas walked up and said “Hi Mum, Merry Christmas”!!! she was SOOOOOOOOO  surprised and we were all so happy that we had managed to keep the secret for so long. They had a wonderful 3 weeks together.
Keith and I went out to our granddaughters place for Christmas day and they put on a wonderful bbq for us and we sat outside and watch the little ones play and just relaxed and enjoyed everyone’s’ company. It was sooo nice (and I did not have to do a thing!!!).
It was also a special time for me over Christmas as I had the privilege of having Flo here for about 10 days. She spent Christmas day and New Year Day with her family and then came back and spent just over a week here with us.
Then, one of our exchange students, who stayed with us 6 years ago, came back to New Zealand and stayed a few days with us as she travelled around to see some of the places that she did not get to see when she was here as a student. It is so nice to have students at 16 and 17 years old as they attend our schools and then see them again 6 years later all grown up!!!

Cont:/
Right – on the crafting front – I have been busy almost ‘living’ in the craft room and creating all sorts of lovely items (great as Flo was here).

I thought that I would give you all a little break though January and let you get over Christmas and get schooling all sorted before we began again. I know it is a very busy time for a lot of you. SO, now is the time to start creating again and our classes will begin in February on the following dates:

Tuesday 7th February       10.30am

Wednesday 8th February                        6.45pm

Thursday 9th February     1.30pm  and again at 6.45pm

Saturday 11th February   10.30am  and again at 1.30pm

As a number of us now own (or are interested in owning) Cricuts, please let me know if you are interested in doing a “Cricut Time” on a Saturday or Sunday on a regular basis. This would be where you could bring along your Cricut and laptop, work on your own projects and/or learn & share with others here. Of course there are purchased SVG files that cannot be ‘shared’ , however when you see something that someone has done you may like to purchase it – sometimes it is seeing something finished that encourages you to want to make it yourself.  For those new to Cricut we can share information like how to purchase files, how to up-load them, how to size them etc and of course making sure we all know how to save them so we don’t loose them!!  For those who are more advanced it will be great to share more advanced info.
ANYWAY – do let me know if you are interested.

And as always – please let me know which class you will be coming to so I have enough packs ready. Don’t forget, you can always bring a friend.

This year I have decided to keep the cost of the classes to $5.00 per pack for Tuesday,  Wednesday and Saturday classes and $10 for Thursday classes.
I am still happy to purchase any dies / stamps / cardstock / craft items / cut images etc,  you may like.  (Items ordered this year will need to be paid for at the time of ordering)

Lucas's trip for Christmas

I do hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and that 2017 will be a great year. Over the past few weeks I have been keeping a big secret. Our daughter was talking to me and was a little sad that she would be spending Christmas alone as most of her friends were going to their home country's for the holidays and she was unable to come home. SO we decided as a big suprise we would arranged for our grandson (who is 21yr) to go visit with his mum in Abu Dhabi for Christmas.

Firstly we created a 'fictional friend' named 'Jan" who was going to go to Dubai and needed someone to pick her up and take her to her hotel. Our daughter was delighted to be able to pick up a NZ'er and especially as the fictional Jan was from Palmerston North. It was quite hard work asking questions to get information from her so that we would know that she was actually going to be home for Christmas. We spoke often on skype and each time I talked a little more and asked a few more questions. Seems she managed to get several days off over Christmas - that was good. Then she had to work on the day that he was flying in, so she said 'don't worry, tell 'Jan' (our fictional friend) that I will swap a shift and be there to get her. Then she started asking questions like - how long is she staying? would she like to stay with me? is she visiting family here? Oh dear, I did have to dodge some of those questions.

Well the day came and my sister and I took our grandson to Auckland to catch the flight to Dubai. He boarded the flight and was off on his great surprise journey.  I stayed up most of the night and all the next day I was on my laptop with fb up waiting for him to let us know how things went. He text me from Brisbane, then again when he landed in Dubai. He headed out to the arrivals and text me to say she was not there. I told him to just wait, all would be well, she was probably parking the car. We waited and 5 minutes later the video came up!!!! he walked along the arrivals isle and saw her holding a sign "JAN" he walked up and said 'hi'!! she was sooooo surprised so with lots of tears and laughter and questions they met again. She asked 'is Jan coming' - he laughed and said 'no, I am 'Jan' she is not real'

Enjoy your Christmas both of you - with all our love.

I will try and find some way of putting the video up on here. not sure how so need to ask an expert for help to do.

I big thank you to my sister for coming with us to the airport, for keeping me calm though the excitement, and also a big thank you to our friend in Hamilton who put us up for a few nights before we went to Auckland and when we came back.

next trip will be going up to Auckland to get him when he returns!!

in the mean time I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and remember it is all about family and the love between you.

Sunday 16th

Hi all,
have managed to get through this week with all it's drama and had a few laughs along the way.

What wonderful classes I have had this week - everyone is so nice and it is soooo relaxing with us all doing such lovely cards. It is great to have new people along and I do hope that you enjoyed it and come again.

I spent an evening with a good friend and we played with the new MISTI (Most Incredible Stamping Tool Invented) - you know when you stamp a stamp and only part of it turns out right - it is soooo frustrating, well now with the MISTI you are able to put your card stock on the misti base, place your un-inked stamp where you want it, close the misti (which will pick up the stamp), open the misti, ink your stamp, close the misti and Wha La you have stamped your stamp exactly where you want it - but oh no - only part of it stamped clearly - no problem, just leave everything where it is, re-ink your stamp and re-stamp it!! because it is attached to the misti it will re-stamp EXACTLY where the first one was - Yeh a perfect stamp!!  NOW do you have those stamps that either have several parts to them that overlay each other, or a flower head as one stamp the stem as another stamp and the leaves as yet another stamp - I find it difficult to stamp them all so that they look connected, or so they look great overlayed. With the misti it is soooo easy - once again you put the first stamp on and stamp it, leave your card stock where it is, place the 2nd layer and repeat with the misti, then other layers. it works really well. Oh just in case you are wondering NO I do NOT sell the misti, I am just giving you MY thoughts on it.
the two roses and the leaves were done using the misti. I have to admit that this is the first time I had used this stamp set as I can NEVER line up the layers right by hand. the flower has 3 layers and so does the leaf. I was impressed as the 3rd leaf stamp is so tiny but makes such a difference to the finished product. (yes the stamp set comes with the dies to cut the flower and leaf).

The parcels of cards and tags that I send to Rae are being received with great excitement. She has now received the last parcel that I sent - it does take several weeks to reach her, however there is much pleasure from the recipients when the parcels arrive.  I am now continuing to gather for the next one to sent.

On the 29th October Flo and I are off to Wellington to teach Design Space to a group of ladies who have bought the new Cricut machine.

Card classes here in November are on Tue 8th - Wed 9th - Thur 10th - and Sat 12th. If you are interested in coming along to any of these classes just give me a call (3533880, or email: madgeb@xtra.co.nz) love to have you along.

Then on 21st November Flo Joycelyn and I are off to Sydney for some inspiration, new ideas and well yes I guess some shopping.

Then December will be upon us!! whatever happened to 2016 - it seems to have gone soooo fast.

Well I am off to prepare for some more classes so will come back on my blog again soon.
